There have been many proposed and opposed reasons for homosexuality. Most commonly, it is blamed on genetic factors, disordered family relationships, early sexual abuse or homosexual experiences, and/or the youth’s rebellion. This quote is from the Josh McDowell Handbook on Counseling Youth. A gallop poll found 52% of Americans believe homosexuality should be considered an alternative lifestyle; 44% of Americans would favor a law that would allow homosexual couples to marry while 52% oppose; furthermore a poll of American teens aged 13 approve of marriage between homosexuals.
Youth need to understand that homosexuality is not a mistake by God, but a spirit that has been dropped into someone by the enemy. We need to realize that the same intensity that the homosexual spirit was dropped in someone, is the same intensity it can be dropped out by Christ. The Bible has many scriptures that deal with homosexuality. Some are Leviticus 18:22; Romans 1:24-28; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10; and 1 Timothy 1:8-10. Regardless of what society wants us to believe, homosexuality is a sin and one of the most obvious physical effects of homosexuality is AIDS. But the key is not speak down to those who may be wrestling with this challenge. God would have us love them until they see God’s love and redemption regardless of how long it takes.
If this happened to you based on something someone did to you in the past, know that you can be healed and delivered. They are many brave stories from people like Donnie McClurkin who have written books about their experience, how the felt when and after it happened, and how God not only delivered them, but helped them to help others through their testimonies. God’s power is bigger than the spirit that is trying to keep you from being and accomplishing all that God created you to be.
If you or a friend is dealing with homosexuality, we suggest you Repent (confess the sin and ask God’s forgiveness), Turn From It (God can deliver you from all homosexual activity), Flee Temptation (Break all past associations and avoid places and circumstances which expose you to arousal, Avoid Dating for awhile (It’s best to spend time with new friends while you discover who you really are and who you will become, and Pray and meditate on God’s Word (This will keep you moving toward the goals that God would have you achieve).
